A painter and glass worker, Jane was born in Welland, Ontario and raised on the family farm in Willoughby Township. After graduating from Westland Secondary School in Niagara Falls, she earned degrees in Fine Art and Education at the University of Toronto. She also studied at OCAD and the Toronto School of Art. Initially interested in the area of textiles, she later expanded her skills, working in painting, photography, glass working, graphic design, preparing print publications, and producing television and video projects. She operated an arts consulting business providing services to support artists’ careers. Jane very early became adept in the use of computers to produce artwork, and continues to utilize digital media and photography in her working practice.
As a glass worker, Jane has produced works in stained and sandblasted glass, as well as blown, formed and slumped glass, and most recently, in flame working.
Jane is a published author in prestigious international journals, such as Ceramics: Art and Perception. She curates art displays, and is frequently invited to introduce artists and their work at exhibitions. She was also a visiting examiner in Visual Art for the International Baccalaureate Organization.
After returning to the Niagara region a few years ago, Jane has become a member at Arts Place Gallery in Port Colborne, Ontario, an artist-run collective. She enjoys her time there, frequently exhibiting painting and glass jewelry, as well as promoting the work of other Niagara artists.
