New Exhibition: Jane Marshall, Memory & Metaphor
June 4 – July 8
Meet the Artist Sunday, June 7, 2 – 4pm
A painter and a glass worker, Jane was born in Welland and raised on the family farm in Willoughby Township. After graduating from Westlane SS, she earned degrees in Fine Art & Education at the University of Toronto, also taking part in course offered at OCAD and the Toronto School of Art. Jane’s career included the Head of the Visual Arts Dept. with the Peel School Board and teaching assignments in France, Italy, Greece and China. Initially interested in the area of textiles, she later expanded her skills working in painting, photography and glassworking, graphic designing, preparing print publications, as well as producing television and video projects. She currently operates an arts consulting business providing services to support artists’ careers. Jane very early became adept in the use of computers to produce artwork, and continues to utilize digital media and photography in her working practice. As a glassworker, Marshall has produced works in stained and sandblasted glass, as well as blown, formed and slumped glass, and, most recently, in flameworking.
She is a published author in prestigious international journals, such as Ceramics: Art and Perception; she curates art displays, and is frequently invited to introduce artists and their work at exhibitions. She was also a visiting examiner in visual art for the International Baccalaureate organization.
After a long career spent working outside of the Niagara area, Marshall resolved to return to Welland and devote herself entirely to artmaking. Visit her website at www.janemarshallart.ca
